TULSA — Saturday at Southern Hills felt more like the third round at The Open than at the PGA Championship with temperatures in the 60s and breezes that blew away any chances for super low scores. Chile’s Mito Pereira shot a one-under 69 and went from trailing by a shot to three strokes in front with 18 holes to play.

You’d be excused if you’re surprise Pereira, a 27-year-old from Chile, is the 54-hole leader in Oklahoma. After all, he’s played in just 27 PGA Tour events in his career prior to this week and had just three top-10 finishes. In 2022, his best showing has been a T-13 at the Valero Texas Open. But with rounds of 68-64-69, Pereira is looking to make his first PGA Tour win a major.

Pereira will be playing along side another golfer looking for his first PGA Tour win and first major in the final twosome on Sunday. But England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, three shots back off the lead, has seven DP World Tour victories to his credit and is the one of two golfers in the field at the PGA Championship to have posted three sub-par rounds.

Just ahead of them will be two more players also looking for their first PGA Tour wins (are you sensing a theme here?): Will Zalatoris and Cameron Young. Zalatoris had the 36-hole lead before shooting a three-over 73 on Saturday to fall three back. Young jumped up the leader board thanks to a three-under 67, moving from a tie for 10th to solo fourth.

Here are all the twosome pairings for Sunday at Southern Hills.
