Trevor Lawrence showered with “DUUUVAL” cheers at TPC Sawgrass, has officially arrived

It’s hard to believe, but Trevor Lawrence—one of the most-hyped college quarterbacks this century—is entering year 3 in the big leagues. His first campaign was rocky, derailed by the Jaguars’ now-infamous Urban Meyer-era, but his second saw the former number-one-overall pick make massive strides under new head coach Doug Pederson. The turnovers halved, the touchdowns doubled, and he logged two signature wins, leading the Jaguars back from 17 down in the second-half to beat the Cowboys in December before erasing a 27-point halftime deficit in the Wild Card round to beat the Chargers, the third largest comeback in NFL playoff history.

Needless to say, Lawrence’s star is rising rapidly in north Florida, evidenced by his hero’s welcome at The Players Championship on Tuesday, when he was greeted by howls of “DUUUVAL!” from the 17th hole’s rowdy, football-loving faithful.

Ladies and gentleman, Trevor Lawrence is officially "That Dude." You can put on a performance for the ages in the playoffs. You can star in your own Subway commercial. But you haven’t truly “made it” until you get your very own “DUUUVAL” from the locals (and also shake hands with Collin Morikawa) at TPC Sawgrass. And with The Players missing another notable bloke with long, blonde locks this year, Lawrence has arrived just in time.
