Police officer commandeers golf cart in stolen-truck chase ending on Long Beach golf course
We’ve seen plenty of golf-course police chases in our days scouring the internet for dumb, tangentially golf-related things to share with you. We’ve seen Florida Men claiming zombies were trying to eat their brains. We’ve seen Florida Women bursting from their SUVs in bright red jumpsuits. We’ve seen a guy arrested for driving drunk while having five illicit bottles of Fireball stashed in his golf cart. If you can dream it up, we’ve seen it … well, except for this.
That was the arrest scene following a stolen-truck chase across Los Angeles on Monday. There’s a helicopter, a motorcycle, and the perpetrators' abandoned truck all within a 300-yard radius. It’s like a deleted scene out of ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.’ Then, just when you think they can’t possibly add another means of motorized transportation to the mix, the news camera pans out to find a local officer pulling up in a golf cart he commandeered in order to pursue the suspects come hell or high rough. If this isn’t the most “Reno 911!” thing you’ve ever seen, we truly don’t know what is.
Thankfully, despite the chase leading across multiple Los Angeles freeways, the perpetrators reportedly weaving in and out of traffic to evade police, no one was hurt during the pursuit. Most of the credit for that goes to the officers already on the scene by the time golf-cart guy arrives, late because he realized he left his wedge back on seven. Some kudos, however, should still go to the quick thinking (and heavy right foot) of Deputy Country Club himself … even if he did ignore the “cart path only” signs.
