Jim Nantz and Grant Hill combine for greatest in-game Masters promo ever

March 16, 2023

Normally in-game promos only rank behind mid-round CEO interviews in terms of viewing experience, but NOT when the Masters is just around the corner. If you're a golf fan, nothing gets you going like a tease for that tournament at Augusta National every April. And on Day 1 of March Madness, Jim Nantz enlisted a little help for one.

It may be the voice of the Masters' final NCAA tournament, but you know he's always got Georgia on his mind. Apparently, Grant Hill is fired up as well.

The NBA legend and CBS teammate of Nantz grabbed a putter and a ball while Nantz provided a bit of golf play-by-play late in the Round of 64 game between Maryland and West Virginia. Have a look and listen:

Sorry to paste my own tweet in there, but I didn't see it elsewhere. And I swear, that was the first thing I saw when I turned on the TV after seeing the opening game of the tourney was going down to the wire. Perfect timing.

In any event, it was such a great promo that even fans at the game were into it. Here's a different angle:

Hill added that he felt pressure having Nantz doing play-by-play (been there, Grant), but he seemed to be happy with his stroke. We have no clue where that golf ball wound up, but considering no basketball players were injured, we'll call it a success.

Anyway, the Masters starts three weeks from today, and like Jim and Grant, we couldn't be more excited. OK, now back to the rest of that other tournament first.
