Marine veteran takes off prosthetic leg and chugs beer out of it at Lakers game, is a true American hero

November 29, 2022

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers blew it. They coughed up a 17-point fourth-quarter lead to an Indiana Pacers team playing the second game of a back-to-back as rookie Andrew Nembhard drained a three at the buzzer to put the Lakeshow out of its misery. It was a tough one for the Crypto dot com Arena to stomach, but it wasn’t even close to the most stomach-churning moment of the evening. That distinguished honor belonged instead to Marine veteran Annika Hutsler, who took off her prosthetic leg and chugged a beer out of it on the jumbotron much to the joy/horror of the packed house. Check it out.

At this point we’d like to thank Hutsler for her service. Both for protecting this nation as a member of the Armed Forces and also for providing the lone highlight of an otherwise abysmal evening of the Lakers faithful (if there is such a thing). The former Warrior Games silver medalist elected to have her leg amputated in 2019 after several failed attempts to remove a tumor from her foot. That must have been an incalculably difficult decision, but she made the most of it on Monday, taking home the Lakers’ Fan of the Game award for her efforts.

That’s more than the Lakers can say …
