The beta test season is over, with LIV Golf kicking off Year 2 at Mayakoba Resort in Mexico over the weekend, the first of 14 events scheduled for 2023. Officials for the Saudi-backed circuit have rebranded it the LIV Golf League and are rallying around the team aspect of the competition, but it was the individual winner who stole the show on Sunday.

Charles Howell III charged from a shot back entering the final round, shooting a bogey-free 63 to claim medalist honors by four shots over Peter Uihlein with a 16-under 197 total. The 43-year-old from Augusta, Ga., who surprised many by jumping to LIV last summer after 23 years on the PGA Tour, claimed just his fourth career professional victory.

Howell famously earned $42 million on the PGA Tour despite winning only three times in 609 career starts. Yet his biggest individual prize money payout was only $1.152 million with his victory at the 2018 RSM Classic. He easily eclipsed that on Sunday by claiming the $4 million first-place prize money payout from the overall purse of $20 million.

As he dashed to individual title, Howell helped lead his Crushers GC to a runway victory in the team competition as well. Howell, Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey and Anirban Lahiri posted a collective 26 under to beat the 4Aces by nine shots and earn $3 million from the $5 million team prize money payout.

Here’s the prize money payout for the field at Mayakoba.
