Why We Like It
- These wedges are more than just their high-toe shape. The pronounced shaping shifts the center of gravity higher and toward the toe to produce shots with increased spin.
- The computer-milled sole grinds eliminate excessive hand work in the manufacturing process for more consistency club to club.
- Laser-etched ribs between the grooves create additional surface friction. Called “spin tread,” the rows of diagonal lines between the grooves are designed to redirect moisture to create cleaner contact with the groove edges.
- Cast from soft 8620 carbon steel, the Hi-Toe 4 features a similar “raw” finish found on the Milled Grind 4 that allows for the groove design to be cleaner and unaffected by any final coating. For all lofts over 54 degrees, full-face grooves are standard.
- The lineup now features five sole grinds. Among them is the return of the ATV Grind, first introduced in 2012, that has a concave sole shape for better contact off tight lies and more extreme bounce for efficient open face shots.
- Top 5 in Performance, low and middle-handicaps.
- 17 options (50-60 degrees), 5 grinds, 1 finish

I don't mind the full face around the green. Out of the sand it dug a little bit. Everything was a runner, it seemed. On chips and pitches, it was easy to open the face and hit a lofted, spinny shot. The full face really is forgiving on open-face shots.

The full-face grooves and triangular shape make it appear larger than it is. It does seem to help if you do catch the ball on the toe or high on the face. Full shots were longer than average and quite accurate.

I like the copper finish, but am indifferent about the full-face grooves. Sole grind didn't seem to help move the club through the turf on partial or full shots. Better performance from the sand. I had complete confidence that I was going to get the ball close on bunker shots.

Real explosiveness off the face. Ideal distance control on shots 100 yards and in; always a soft landing. Easy to pop the ball up on pitch shots. Plows through the sand on bunker shots with good checking spin.

I'm a big fan of the looks—the high toe, copper color, full-face grooves. Overall, it performed slightly better than average around the green. I couldn't get every shot to land where I wanted them to. Same with bunker shots, although they were super easy to get out.

More surface area on the clubface helped with blasting shots out onto the green from the bunker. Not the biggest fan of the high toe and full-face look, but there's no denying it adds forgiveness.

The grind on the sole helps the club get through any surface and create more spin. So easy to hit out of the bunker. Ball comes right out and checks up with good spin.

The overall versatility with this club makes it so easy to want to put it in your hands. The scoring lines out on the toe are distracting at first, but you get over it quickly when you hit one out on the toe and still get a decent result out of it. This can be used by any golfer, high or low handicap.

The eye-catching copper finish makes it look like it should be in the Louvre. The full-face scoring lines, combined with the high toe, make it appear like you cannot miss with this. On full swings, it felt terrific, while half-swings felt controlled. Greenside chips and pitches were responsive.

I like how the bronze finish isn't too rusty or shiny. A bit thicker than I'd like, but easy to clip the ball on full swings. Effortless out of the bunker. Slid underneath the ball and blasted it out every time.

It's got grooves all the way up and down the face and the biggest face I've seen on any wedge. Easy to find the sweet spot and hit high shots, even out of thick grass. Performed really well off tight lies, as well.

Tons of spin on greenside shots. You can feel each and every groove come in play, even on bunker shots. I was able to land and stop the ball pretty much where I wanted from the sand. High toe does help quite a bit in squaring the face and exposing the lower side of the face, which is where you get the most spin.

It's got some muscle to it. You can't help but notice all the weight in the toe. It feels like a distance wedge, and a great one for high-toe misses. You can literally hit it anywhere on the face and the ball has spin. The club works so hard for you, you just have to point and shoot.

Nice, full face and grooves give you confidence that you can spin the ball coming out of the sand. More inconsistent on greenside shots, but if you hit the ball in the center of the face you'll get a good, high trajectory. Mis-hits are lower and deader with less spin.

Easy to maneuver shots with it—low, high, left, right. Throwing one up in the air is effortless. It would be effortless for a higher-handicap player, too. The high toe is so forgiving on every shot. It doesn't look great, but it allows you to get away with toe hits. On greenside shots, the leading edge sits down while the face is open, so it performs well off tight lies as well as in the rough.

Full swing shots were perfect. Every ball I hit went through the ideal window and came off the face at the right speed. Felt like I was able to get the ball to check more than any other wedge. Around the greens, I had trouble getting used to the shape of the head. With time, that would go away.

The shape with the long grooves is a little too much. It looks like a spatula. I do like the copper finish, milling, and how the club sits behind the ball. Effective but a bit toe-heavy to a fault. Easy to hit high, soft shots out of the sand with good stopping power.

The ZipCore material in the hosel saves weight, some of which is moved low and toward the toe where golfers tend to it hit. The rest of the saved weight is used to make the hosel longer and wider to increase forgiveness.

To promote a slightly lower, more controllable ball flight, the SM10 line features shorter hosel lengths and a smaller-head profile to create a progressive center of gravity in the 46- through 52-degree lofts.
Tour-player feedback resulted in shifting the center of gravity on those lofts slightly closer to the center of the face for a solid feel and to reduce a draw bias.
By using longer hosel lengths and thicker toplines in the higher lofts (54 degrees and up), Vokey was able to shift the center of gravity up (for a lower trajectory) and slightly forward, which enables the face to square more easily.

For versatility, Cobra went back in time and updated the popular “notch” grinds in the high-lofted wedges based on the old designs made by short-game guru Phil Rodgers. The progressive-notch design allows the contact area in the heel to glide through faster when opening the face on the 58- and 60-degree models.

By altering its manufacturing requirements, Wilson was able to produce a groove design with a steeper angle in the groove. That leads to less loss of spin from the rough and wet conditions while reducing the chances of the dreaded flyer.

A Garnet blast is applied to add microscopic peaks and valleys to the face that help dig into the cover of the ball on chip shots for increased spin.
