Why We Like It
- Wedges are nothing without spin. The grooves are produced using a CNC milling process and feature a new face blast to help improve performance in wet conditions.
- For versatility, Cobra went back in time and updated the popular “notch” grinds in the high-lofted wedges based on the old designs made by short-game guru Phil Rodgers. The progressive-notch design allows the contact area in the heel to glide through faster when opening the face on the 58- and 60-degree models.
- The wedges are manufactured from 8620 carbon steel using a metal-injection-molding process that produces tighter manufacturing tolerances, reducing the need for hand polishing that can lead to inconsistencies.
- What polishing is needed is done by a robot, eliminating human error and ensuring the same finish time after time.
- A progressive center of gravity (low on the 48- to 52-degree lofts, middle on the 54- and 56-degree models and high on the 58- and 60-degree lofts) provides optimal trajectory for shots typically struck with those clubs.
- Top 5 in Sound/Feel, low-handicaps.
- 17 options (48 to 60 degrees), 4 grinds, 2 finishes

I like how the bottom groove is a little lower and smaller on the face compared to other wedges. You feel like you're getting an extra groove and more spin. The smaller groove also allows you to focus on the center of the clubface. Not the longest wedge but it produces a great medium-to-high trajectory. With that ball flight, I feel like I can hold every green.

Fantastic club on full swings and greenside shots from clean lies. The milled trailing edge on the sole helps you lay the face open for a variety of shots.

Pretty consistent performance out of the bunker with a decent amount of spin. I wasn't able to manipulate the ball a lot but it was still very effective at getting out. Handy chipping club, too. It was easy to generate spin and get the ball to land soft.

Sharp looking club that looks like a players wedge. It's light, but still very balanced. Not a ton of bite on short chips. Had to work a little harder to generate spin. Pitch shots felt really soft and sand shots had a TON of bite to them.

Chip shots were pleasant sounding and had a nice, soft feel to them. I could open up the face and hit a variety of shots. Not quite as forgiving as some others, but achieved good results on center hits. Soft feel continued to the bunker.

Good spin around the green. I was able to flight the ball down fairly well. The clubhead is a little small for me. I didn't have the confidence to open it up all the way, but it still got through the sand easily.

Really good performance out of the sand, which was surprising given the small, compact head shape. Better-than-average spin on chip shots.

The hosel looks like it's ahead of the clubhead, which is great for hitting low-flighted shots into the green. If you play in a commonly windy area, it's a great wedge for you. If you're looking for a wedge you can launch really high, it's probably not for you.

Nice, pleasing compression on full shots. Around the green, the club really shines from hard-packed sand. The bounce allows the club to glide right through. If you're afraid of blading a ball from this type of lie, you should definitely give this club a try.

Easy to hit. Out of the bunker the ball checked right up there with the best wedges. I was able to put enough spin on the ball on flop shots to get the ball to stop softly.

Thin topline makes me feel confident I'll be able to clip the ball and make it spin. Easy to hit out of the bunker. Turf interaction is average on chip shots and requires some thinking about technique.

A good club overall. It takes some time getting used to—you have to tame it first, like a bucking bronco. Once you break it in, you'll get it to do what you want it to do on a much more consistent level.

Very smooth out of the sand. High shots came out with ease. Felt like there was nothing stopping the club from going through the sand. Didn't get much spin on greenside shots, but as soon as I got used to the roll I was able to play low runners and higher shots.

Full swing shots were a little diggy into the turf. Pitch shots were decent. The beveling of the heel allowed me to open the face wide on bunker shots without the heel digging. The grind on the back edge also allows you to open it wide.

The rounded toe makes this wedge look very circular, almost like you're looking down at a dinner plate. It feels like it's on the lighter side for a wedge, but you can get lively with it and move the ball around. Does a nice job of fluffing the ball out high on shorter bunker shots.

Cleveland uses a proprietary steel alloy that features a tighter grain structure for a softer feel. It also saves six grams.
In its raw state, the alloy has the benefit of not rusting over time as other steel alloys tend to do, preserving the look and performance of the grooves.
The ZipCore material in the hosel saves weight, some of which is moved low and toward the toe where golfers tend to it hit. The rest of the saved weight is used to make the hosel longer and wider to increase forgiveness.

By increasing the thickness of the flange in an area more in line with the center of the face, TaylorMade was able to improve the sound.

To promote a slightly lower, more controllable ball flight, the SM10 line features shorter hosel lengths and a smaller-head profile to create a progressive center of gravity in the 46- through 52-degree lofts.
Tour-player feedback resulted in shifting the center of gravity on those lofts slightly closer to the center of the face for a solid feel and to reduce a draw bias.
By using longer hosel lengths and thicker toplines in the higher lofts (54 degrees and up), Vokey was able to shift the center of gravity up (for a lower trajectory) and slightly forward, which enables the face to square more easily.

By altering its manufacturing requirements, Wilson was able to produce a groove design with a steeper angle in the groove. That leads to less loss of spin from the rough and wet conditions while reducing the chances of the dreaded flyer.
The direction of the face milling was changed from being concave up to concave down. This makes the mill lines perpendicular to the club path on open-faced shots, leading to increased interaction with the ball for spin retention.
A Garnet blast is applied to add microscopic peaks and valleys to the face that help dig into the cover of the ball on chip shots for increased spin.
