Why We Like It
- The SMS Pro continues Edel’s tradition of customizable wedges, but on this updated version, a 25-gram weight is used in place of three screws. Those with an over-the-top swing will want more weight in the heel to promote the face staying closed at impact. If you tend to pull wedge shots, the weight goes in the toe.
- A new groove pattern adds three grooves depending on the loft for more spin. In addition to the updated groove pattern, Edel continues its use of cross-hatch laser etching to increase surface roughness for maximum control.
- CNC milling ensures consistent sole geometry on each wedge as opposed to hand polishing.
- Four grinds provide ample options for playing conditions and swing type.
- Low-, standard- and high-bounce options are available.

Hot List testers noted exceptional turf interaction and sand performance—wide flanges, low-sole weighting and sole grooves were praised for smooth glide through sand and grass. Short-game strengths include phenomenal spin, silky touch on chips and flops, high soft-landing trajectory options and reliable distance control. Heads range from very light (ideal for tight lies and fluffy bunkers) to heavier designs that power through firm sand, plus modern milling/forged looks. One drawback: a number of reviewers found full swings less consistent.
Hot List testers noted razor-like leading-edge turf contact and exceptional short-shot control—phenomenal spin on chips and flops that makes creativity around the green effortless. The wide flange and sole grooves deliver extremely easy bunker play, smooth turf glide and a soft, confident feel on tricky chips. Vertical milling and a modern-classy look suggest quicker turf passage. A light head suits tight lies and finesse shots; one caveat: it can feel less stable and more challenging on full swings.
Hot List testers noted exceptional full- and half‑swing performance with controllable height, strong spin and reliable distance control. Smooth turf interaction and a wider flange let the head glide through grass and sand; many praised its bunker ease, consistent accuracy, and greenside versatility for flops, checks and shot‑shaping. Rounded shaping encourages center contact and surprising power for a light head. One caveat: the lighter feel can reduce finesse on very short chips and pitches.
Hot List testers noted low sole weighting and a compact, rounded profile that delivers excellent turf interaction and a soft, accurate feel. It excels in sand — smooth, grabby bunker action with strong bite into greens — and produces high, soft-landing chips with easy spin and pinpoint control. Nippy full shots feel lively and spin-ready, making it fun to shape shots. One downside: it can be inconsistent on full swings.
