The World's Most Expensive Putters
FIRST CLASSIC Series Scotty Cameron Golf Putter COA SET $26,000Bill Vogeney: This is Scotty's first set of limited putters, one of 500 sets he made. These seven putters would probably sell for $500-$800 per putter in mint condition. The wooden case is very rare and many were damaged in shipping from one collector to another. Most of these sets have been "broken up," meaning the putters sold off individually. I would guess there are less than 50 sets intact. I would value this set, to the right collector, at approximately $7,500.Bobby O'Donnell: This set of classics is rare, especially mint, but would not sell for $26,000. Probably closer to between $11,000- $15,000.See it on Ebay
Scotty Cameron TOUR Titleist Golf Putter eight piece set, $8,0000BV: This is a great set, eight putters, 500 sets, all copper-plated. Again, like the first set, many of these sets have been separated. I think this set may be worth every penny the seller is asking. The copper rack by itself is worth probably $1,500 right now. Many of these putters have been cleaned, removing the tarnish that comes with age on a copper finish, which is unfortunate.See it on Ebay
Scotty Cameron Tiger Woods Tour Titleist Golf Putter two-piece set $10,000__BV:__These are the first two Tiger Woods victory putters Scotty produced, one for his third U.S. Amateur, using a pro platinum Tour Newport; and then his first tour victory in Las Vegas, using a Japanese Scottydale X-SLC. SLC are the initials of Scotty's daughter, Summer Lynn Cameron. Only 960 of the U.S. Amateur putters were produced (he won in 1996, thus 960 made) and 332 of the Las Vegas (his total score for 90 holes). I think 232 of the Vegas putters were sent to Japan. The Vegas winner is very hard to find. I see the U.S. Am trading in the $1,000-$1,500 range, and the Vegas in the $1,500-$2,500 range.__BO:__Among the reasons for pricing: Tiger Woods is one of the biggest form of advertising for Cameron -- basically, everyone wants some kind of Tiger memorabilia. The first PGA Tour victory putter is rarely seen and the price would be driven up due to demand.See it on Ebay
Tiger Woods Scotty Cameron Golf Putter 1997 MASTERS $10,000__BV:__This is a great putter. The value will fluctuate widely based on the condition of the case. The plexiglass cover tends to crack easily. Only 270 were produced, with the first 21 done in stainless steel. Titleist accounts had to enter a lottery to get one of these putters, with the wholesale cost being $3,000 compared to the normal cost of perhaps $250 for a limited-edition putter back then. I believe the profits went to the Tiger Woods Foundation. When these come on the market, they typically sell for $3,500-$5,000. Lower numbers add a touch of value. The putter has to be in perfect condition along with the case.BO: This was the model that Tiger Woods used to use. Individually numbered putters drive up the value on the collector's market.See it on Ebay
Black Pearl Scotty Cameron Tour My Girl Golf Putter $8,800__BV:__This is a pretty cool "custom" tour putter made from Scotty's "tour" 009 head. The 009 refers to the model number, and is a tribute to Karsten Solheim's "Scottsdale Anser" or "Dale Head 029" putter. It was called the Dale Head 029 because that version of the Ping Anser used the same head design as the famous 1967 Ping Anser made in Scottsdale, Ariz. The difference is the newer "Dale Head" had an address of Phoenix, Ariz., in the cavity, and the zip code for Phoenix was 85029. The zip code for Titleist in Carlsbad is 92009, thus 009. This putter is most often made for the collector's market. The "My Girl" line of putters, a limited-edition putter (500 to 1,000 made per year since 2002) has become very popular with collectors as they tend to buy them for their wives or girlfriends. A few women collectors also collect these. Scotty, over the last few years, has made a limited number of handstamped tour putter versions, typically less than 15 a year. This one is special because of the black pearl finish, a finish he only used for a couple of years in 2005-2006. A putter like this is most likely worth $3,500-$4,000.BO: This is a 009 "My Girl" prototype, which was either a custom order from online distributors, or made and sold through the Scotty Cameron Museum and Gallery. The price on this one is a little high. My best guess would be that it would sell for closer to $6,000.See it on Ebay
Titleist Scotty Cameron Tour Gold Golf Putter w/ COA $6,5000__BV:__This appears to be a Scotty Cameron tour putter with gold paint fill. This is a $2,500-$3,000 putter. Quite a few tour players use this model. I think the seller thinks the paint fill adds value to the putter. It doesn't.BO: This one is pretty much a joke to me. It is a regular Studio Select Tour with Gold Paint fill. Asking is $6500, where it should be around $2000. You could buy one for $1,600 and send it to Scotty's Custom Shop and get it painted gold for $72.See it on Ebay
Ghost White - Scotty Cameron Bullseye 33/350 Gram Putter $3,329.94__BV:__This is a putter the seller has had an aftermarket finish applied to, much like the new Ghost White Rossa putters from TaylorMade. It's a $150 putter. I don't know what they're thinking charging this much.See it on Ebay
Byron Morgan DH 89 Damascus Putter: 1 of Less Than 10 $3,250BV: I am familiar with Byron Morgan's work, and am familiar with this putter. Damascus steel is fairly rare, and very unusual to look at. Tad Moore, formerly of Maxfli Golf in the early 1990's, made a line of Damascus putters 15 years ago, which typically sold for $1,000-$1,500. I am not aware of any public sales of Byron's version of Damascus steel. While this putter is beautiful and very rare, Byron Morgan does not have any player on the PGA Tour (as far as I know) that uses one of his models. In the past, Craig Stadler has won with his putter, Jose Maria Olazabal won the Masters with one, etc. The limited tour use really limits the appeal and value of something like this.Scotty made approximately 24 Damascus putters that sold for $15,000 each. For the collector who wants but can't afford or acquire a Cameron Damascus, this might be the best alternative.See it on Ebay
Tiger Woods "Tiger Slam" Masters Putter $2,500__BV:__Another Tiger Woods victory putter, as Scotty made them to celebrate Tiger's major championships through 2002. I see these trading between $1,500-$2,000.See it on Ebay
Anser Remake__BV:__This group of Ansers appears to be reasonably priced. While I don't keep up with current prices, the original Anser "Scottsdale" looks in good shape. While it doesn't have the shaft band or original grip, the head sure looks clean. The "remake" is a low serial number, which is good, has the original grip and cover. These used to sell for $300-plus, but since PING made so many (reportedly 24,000 after they originally announced only 3,000), they dropped in value pretty quickly. The third Anser, the Phoenix 85029, confuses many would-be collectors. Notice it does not have the same shape as the Scottsdale heads, or "Dale Heads." The Dale Head Phoenix 85029 has the same head, but "MADE IN USA" is stamped in the cavity and not on the top line of the back of the putter, as this one is.With any collectible club, originality prices the highest prices. For a PING Anser Scottsdale to bring the highest dollars, it should have the original grip, although after 44 years, the grips will be cracked and dried. They should also have the original shaft band. Finally, the head should be nice and dark. Many enterprising dealers over the years sent back well-dinged up examples to PING, where the heads would be "tumbled" to remove the nicks and dings. The result is a nice shiny PING -- that really does not attract the well-informed, big-dollar collector.See it on Ebay
