PGA Championship 2022: Fans are freaking out over the beer (and water) prices at Southern Hills

May 16, 2022

We all know inflation is running rampant these days. I see it on everything from the Chinese takeout I get every weekend to my beloved bottles of Coca-Cola from Costco. They cost more than $1 per bottle now! So, yeah, it's rough out there. But that's nothing compared to the sticker shock fans are in for this week at the 2022 PGA Championship.

Those attending the tournament better hit the ATM before heading over to Southern Hills. And they better hit it HARD. Because one fan tweeted a photo of the concessions prices, and, well, see for yourself:

Good. Lord. We're not at the Masters anymore, Toto.

That's not inflation, that's good old fashioned price-gouging. And yes, it happens at most sporting events, but $18 for a Michelob Ultra?! In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, "That is outrageous!"

To be fair, they look like the big cans, but still, that is pricey. Not to mention it's $19 for a Stella. You can buy four IMPORT BEERs (AKA Stellas) for that at Augusta National. Needless to say, Golf Twitter was not happy about this development as you can see by the many comments to the tweet.

But even worse than over-charging for a watery beer (no hate, I love Mich Ultras), is over-charging for actual water. Especially during a venue known for being extra toasty and with temperatures expected to reach the 90s a few days this week. That's just cruel.

So make that two things to remember before attending the PGA this week: Load up on money AND hydration. Sending Ts & Ps for those fans' lymphatic systems—and wallets.
