Mississippi State drops incredible Mike Leach promo after taking down LSU, is on the heater of all heaters

September 28, 2020

When Mississippi State announced Mike Leach as their new head ball coach in the spring, the college football world salivated at the thought of Mike Leach in the SEC. The absurdity, the pageantry, the press conferences. In a single instant the SEC Network went from premium cable add-on to must-see TV. But expectations for the on-field product were a little less breathy. Throw for zillion, bajillion yards, concede a zillion, bajillion points, and probably contend for bowl games in year two or three. This has been Mike Leach MO everywhere he’s been, from Texas Tech to Eastern Washington, and nobody expected anything different in Starkville.

On Saturday, however, in the first big upset of the college football season, the Dogs hung 44 on reigning National Champion LSU, with quarterback K.J. Costello throwing for an SEC-record 623 yards, and suddenly the entire SEC West landscape changed. If you missed it, here’s the tectonic shift as it happened.

But that was just dubya no. 1 for the dogs this week, who dropped this incredible, Leach-laden promo on Monday to the giddy acclaim of college football fans everywhere. As Leach himself says, if you’re looking for a bandwagon, hop the hell on.

Needless to say, State hasn’t been on a heater like this since those three magical weeks in the fall of 2014 when Dak and Dan had the Bulldogs perched high atop the college football mountaintop. Are the halcyon days back? Can a little Mike Leach magic propel Miss State to glory in this, the weirdest of all the weird college football seasons? Only the alien gods among us can say, but we’re booking our spot in the wagon train all the same.
