Minor-league baseball announcer calls at-bat as if it were the Masters, becomes instant legend

Everybody has Masters fever. You, me, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker. Heck, even West Michigan Whitecaps announcer Dan Hasty got in on the fun this weekend, calling an at-bat of High-A baseball as if he was sitting next to Jim Nantz in the booth at Augusta National. Listen in, friends.

Incredible work from Hasty, who turns a double off the wall into a soothing lullaby, his voice dripping like sweet honey over a ripe Georgia peach. “Exquisite” he declares, and we can’t help but agree.

The baseball-announcer-to-golf-broadcaster pipeline isn’t exactly rife with success stories. Just ask Joe Buck. But perhaps Hasty is finally the guy to flip the script. Lord knows Jim and Verne aren’t getting any younger. If one of their esteemed headsets should become available in the near future, consider this Hasty’s audition tape.
