There isn’t a golfer in the world who hasn’t dreamt of hearing the starter on the first tee at Augusta National say “Fore please, now driving …” followed by their name echoing among the patrons. For 95 fortunate folks, that dream is about to be fulfilled after earning an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters.
Whether you’re a past champion making your 41st and final start (Bernhard Langer) or one of the 21 rookies trying to see if they can join Gene Sarazen (1935) and Fuzzy Zoeller (1979) as the only first-time players to win a green jacket, the feeling never gets old.
The question of course ahead of the tournament was who would be paired with who when the 2025 Masters tee times were officially revealed. Suffice it to say, Augusta National maintained its tradition of putting the defending champion (Scottie Scheffler) with the U.S. Amateur champion (Jose Luis Ballester, who made some news on Thursday in a very different sort of way), while adding Justin Thomas into the threesome. And history held with several of the other 19 past champions in the field paired with other first-time players in a nod to bridging different generations of golfers.
There’s also some interesting pairings involving the 12 LIV golfers competing this week. (Our favorite: Phil Mickelson with Jason Day and Keegan Bradley.)
After the conclusion of the first round, Justin Rose is leading with a seven-under 65, two strokes ahead of a trio of golfers (Corey Conners, Ludvig Aberg and Scheffler). Friday's action includes all the drama of who will make the cut.
Here's the official 2025 Masters tee times released by Augusta National Golf Club for Friday's second round.
