It’s not often Augusta National finds itself lagging behind in, well, just about anything. Yet with the recent rise in prize money payouts on the PGA Tour, thanks to its new designated events, and creation of the upstart LIV Golf League and its eye-popping purses, the $15 million that was up for grabs in at the 2022 Masters looks, well, “ordinary.” OK, that’s a little extreme. But you get the idea.

Not surprisingly, perhaps, Masters officials announced on Saturday they were boosting the purse for the 2023, although not to an outrageous level: $18 million, or a increase of $3 million overall. (And don’t forget, last year’s payout was $3 million more than in 2021, meaning the purse has jumped by 50 percent in two years)

This year’s winner, Jon Rahm, earns a first-place prize money payout of $3.24 million, up from the $2.7 million that Scottie Scheffler took home a year ago.

The Masters now leads all men’s majors in payouts to players. The U.S. Open paid $17.5 million at The Country Club in 2022 and the PGA Championship had a $15 million prize money payout at Southern Hills. The Open Championship paid $14 million last July at St. Andrews. All the majors, however, trail the Players Championship, which paid out $25 million in March with winner Scottie Scheffler earning $4.5 million.

Here’s the prize money payout each each golfer making the cut this week. Come back after the end of play on Sunday and we’ll update this with the names and specific payouts for each golfer who made the cut.
