John Daly kicking 50-yard(!) field goals is the video you didn't know you needed to see

August 31, 2023

That John Daly was a high school kicker and a member of the 1983 Helias High School state championship football team has always been part of his eclectic bio. And Jim Nantz added to the legend by telling a story of Daly booting a 40-yarder at a Colts game on the eve of his 1991 PGA Championship victory. But it's also always been one of those "We'll believe it when we see it" type things.

Well, everyone, you're in luck. Because now we can see it.

On Thursday, the PGA Tour Champions tweeted out an old clip of Daly—with a full-bloom mullet—booming field goals from 50 yards at a Denver Broncos practice in 1992. Have a look:

Talk about bringing new meaning to the nickname "Long John"! Don't act like you're not impressed. Heck, there might be some college football teams scrambling to look into Daly's eligibility right now.

And please, don't come with the "Well, he had altitude help!" being in the Mile-High City. Sure, but there was also snow on the ground so the ball wasn't flying as far. And again, we're talking about a golfer drilling 50-yard field goals!

Not that we should be surprised considering this man's many skills from shooting hoops to belting out tunes to belly-flopping. Oh, not to mention being a pretty darn good golfer. What a talent.
