J.J. Watt admits he has no idea what’s going on at the NFL Draft because he “just got off the golf course”

J.J. Watt is happily retired. Unlike a lot of former NFL players, who can’t hide the football fire still burning inside them, Watt seems completely at peace with his decision to hang it up at the end of the 2022 season. Part of that is because he’s had a Hall of Fame career, part of that is because he’s been plagued by injuries for years and part of that is because the dude just loves golf.

We’ve seen ample proof of this already. Heck, Tom Brady had been retired for 15 seconds (the second time) before Watt was seen trying to set up a tee time with his former nemesis. On Thursday night, however, we witnessed Watt's true commitment to the game when he appeared on the Pat McAfee Show midway through the opening round of the 2023 NFL Draft. There he admitted that despite his two former teams making three picks inside the top 10, he had no idea what was going on at the NFL’s biggest party because he and brother T.J. Watt had just got off the golf course.

OK, so that’s not exactly the hard-hitting draft analysis you’re looking for from one of your NFL analysts, but we doubt McAfee was too upset by it. He’s a golfer himself and has the incredible Peyton Manning stories to prove it. He can certainly emphasize. In fact, when the 2024 NFL Draft rolls around, he’ll probably even be hoping for an invite.
