One man's trash, another man's treasure
Liberty National will host the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs for the third time with the 2021 Northern Trust coming to Jersey City, N.J. Built on the site of a former oil terminal, ammunition depot and a superfund landfill, it was acquired by Paul Fireman and the course opened in 2006 after waiting a dozen years to pass through regulations. The 2017 Presidents Cup site offers unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline, making it a perfect TV venue. Here are photos and descriptions of every hole at Liberty National.

Hole 1, Par 4, 398 yards
Pin positions on the green will dictate how players approach the short, dogleg-right hole from the tee. Front hole locations will make for easier birdie chances.

Hole 2, Par 3, 219 yards
The hole plays different day-to-day (and even mid-round) as the winds change. Players will be using mid- to long irons to a green protected by a large left bunker and small single bunker to the right.

Hole 3, Par 4, 395 yards
The fairway tilts left and leaves players with a blind second shot. Run offs all around the green will make for tough up-and-down opportunities if you miss the green.

Hole 4, Par 3, 193 yards
Striking views of the skyline frame this figure-eight green. Miss the putting surface and you're likely to have a tricky up and down.

Hole 5, Par 4, 427 yards
The downhill tee shot doesn't require driver, but a shot in the fairway is key to success. Water runs down the entire left side of the hole.

Hole 6, Par 5, 538 yards
The hole is reachable in 2, depending on the wind. Water starts 300 yards out and makes the layup and approach shot tricky.

Hole 7, Par 4, 484 yards
Fairway bunkers left and right make for a tight driving hole. The green is large, but shallow, making this a fairly difficult hole.

Hole 8, Par 5, 611 yards
This is a true three-shot hole, with heavy bunkering around the green. Players need to think about the angles they take if they hope to have a legitimate birdie chance.

Hole 9, Par 4, 474 yards
A creek runs across the fairway, requiring players lay back from the elevated tee shot. The green is then elevated setting up a semi-blind approach.

Hole 10, Par 4, 513 yards
The hole takes players back to the clubhouse, with a view of the New York skyline in the distance. This slight dogleg right is the longest par 4 on the course.

Hole 11, Par 3, 250 yards
The hole isn't quite as daunting as the yardage would seem given the downhill tee shot. Water surrounds the entire left side of the green.

Hole 12, Par 4, 431 yards
Another elevated tee shot, this time with the option of hitting left or right on the split fairway. Players need to avoid the collection area behind and to the left of the green.

Hole 13, Par 5, 563 yards
A reasonable easy tee shots sets up a decision for players on how aggressive they want to be with the second shot. The green is reachable in 2, but requires a long carry over water. The hole offers a great view of the Statue of Liberty.

Hole 14, Par 3, 150 yards
The green at the club's signature hole is heavily protected by bunkers, fescue and the Hudson River, making for a delicate shot with a wedge or short iron.

Hole 15, Par 4, 481 yards
Another fairway lined with bunkers that requires precision (and length) off the tee. The tricky green has a undulating swale in the middle, creating two tiers.

Hole 16, Par 4, 325 yards
A fun match-play hole, this drivable par 4 has a waste bunker and water hazard right setting up the risk-reward dilemma for players.

Hole 17, Par 4, 445 yards
This hole usually plays back into the wind and has a lot of nooks and crannies near the undulating two-tiered green.

Hole 18, Par 4, 490 yards
The home hole offers unobstructed views of Lower Manhattan. Deep fairway bunkers put a premium on accuracy off the tee. The green slopes back to front to complicate how you play your approach shot.
