The Concession Golf Club
In 2004, European great Tony Jacklin, a resident of Sarasota, Fla., had located 1,400 acres on which he wished to build a golf club. He approached Jack Nicklaus, who he had famously competed against in the 1969 Ryder Cup, with Nicklaus conceding the final hole in one of golf's great examples of sportsmanship.
The Concession Golf Club represents a number of rarities. First, Jack Nicklaus' courses are often built as residential developments, but this layout in Bradenton, Fla., is on natural terrain. Not often found in Florida, the design flows across a variety of landscapes—meadows, wetlands, oak hammocks and pine forests. And Nicklaus doesn't do many co-designs, but when approached by European great Tony Jacklin, Nicklaus decided he'd concede once again. In 2006, The Concession Golf Club opened, and it earned Golf Digest's Best New Private Course award. It has been ranked each year on Golf Digest's Second 100 Greatest list since the list's debut in 2013-2014. The course will host the 2021 WGC-Workday Championship.

Like other Jack Nicklaus courses, Concession receives sand for its bunkers by railcar from Ohio. The "Pro Angle" sand helps the ball sit on top of the sand while being firm underneath. Here's a view from the right side of the fairway at No. 1.

The par-4 second hole can play as long as 476 yards.

A look down the third fairway. The course sits on 530 acres, and about 250 of those are wetlands and preserved land.

Here's the green at No. 5. One of the more demanding approaches at Concession, there's room to bail out right—but not left.

The dogleg-left, par-5 seventh hole is Concession's No. 1 handicap hole. Measuring as long as 606 yards, a very undulating green is guarded by a native water feature up the left side and a natural swamp in front.

The par-4 eighth hole was inspired by the 14th hole at Nicklaus' Muirfield Village Golf Club. Water fronts the green and a large bunker sits on the left side.

The ninth hole, with some of the club's lodges in the background—available for members to stay on-site.
A drive up the right center of the fairway will help avoid a blind approach into this 410-yard par-4 10th hole. It's a nice risk-reward hole—the closer you get to the water, the better angle you have to this green.

Though guarded by an initimidating bunker complex, the 10th is a good birdie opportunity to start the back nine.

A view of the secluded par-3 11th hole, measuring 211 yards from the back tees. There is a shaved area to the left, which appears to be a part of the green from the tee.

The 12th is a fabulous short par 4, measuring just 349 yards from the back tees. Rumor has it that J.B. Holmes, a member and frequenter at Concession, once drove the green into a 15-mile-per-hour headwind.

Typically the toughest one-shotter on the course, the 14th measures up to 222 yards. The putting surface slopes away and down into a collection area, with a native swamp area behind the green.
No. 15.

This double dogleg par-5, measuring over 600 yards, is bound to create some fascinating moments down the stretch of the WGC-Workday event. A bold second shot is required over a lake to a heavily protected green. The club added about 100 yards to this hole before the 2015 NCAA Championships were played.
