Overview
The only one of Bandon Dunes' five 18-hole courses that isn't immediately adjacent to the Pacific coastline, Trails scores points other ways, taking players on a fantastic journey through three distinct ecosytems. The course starts in serious sand dunes then turns inward toward meadows and dense Oregon rainforest, climbing toward an upper section at holes nine through 13. Fourteen is a love-it or-hate-it par 4 to a thumb of a green personally fashioned by Crenshaw that can be driven with an unerring drive off a high bluff, dropping the holes back to the meadows and ultimately to the dunes at 17 and 18. Bump-and-run is the name of the game but the structure of each hole requires thoughtful bumps and targeted runs.

“A beautiful Coore Crenshaw routing through the woods of Oregon. You always know you are near the Ocean but for a few holes you nearly forget. One of the most unique routings in America."

“Bandon Trails is an absolute pleasure to play on just about every dimension. Every hole is unique and presents both shot options and challenge. Play conservatively and you'll have a more challenging approach. Play aggressively and trouble comes into play. The layout meanders through the forest (only one view of the ocean from the highest point on the course). Even in the middle of winter, the course is impressively firm and fast."

“Another masterpiece by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The first hole grabs your attention with a tee shot that looks more daunting than it actually is. An elevated tee box with generous landing area then an elevated green makes this a great opening hole. The second is a tough, long, but very fair par 3 and the course makes its way back into the forest then back to the dunes. A course where one walks off the 18th hole and many of the 18 are embedded firmly in the memory of a great day. Many courses start out with a bang and have a lot of glitz but by the end of the round the holes are just not memorable. Not so with this amazing Coore/Crendshaw design. A course where each hole grabs your attention and like a great symphony works its way seamlessly and consecutively to a crescendo fabulous ending hole."

“The only Bandon course not on the Pacific Ocean, Bandon Trails is an excellent Coore/Crenshaw design that opened in 2005. Easily the most difficult walk, and arguably the toughest course at the Resort, this course winds its way up and down the heavily forested hills inland and is a wonderful hike. The greens here are large and undulating and the course was in excellent shape with firm, fast conditions. There are two reachable par fours that offer strong options - 8 and the iconic 14th, but there are numerous holes on the course that give the golfer options such as the 6th, with its split fairway and deadly midline bunker. In terms of uniqueness/character and aesthetics, Bandon Trails lags slightly behind its oceanfront siblings, but this is an excellent golf course worthy of its many accolades and well-worth a play."

“Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is located on the western coast of Oregon, 2.5 hours south of Eugene, Oregon and 45 min south of North Bend. There are currently 5 championship courses and two short courses (The Preserve-a 13 hole par 3 course ) and Shorties (a 19 hole par 3 course). Bandon Trails was designed by Coore/Crenshaw(2005), this course starts and ends in the dunes and is routes thru meadows and coastal forests. Each hole is separated by short walks and are nicely isolated from other holes. The course has numerous elevation changes, is extremely scenic and challenging."

“Bandon Trails is unique amongst the courses on property as it is the only one not on the water, but don’t let that dissuade you from stopping by — it’s a gem of a course. Not only does it offer a unique experience compared to the 4 sister courses, but it also offers the least wind (a nice break from the open terrain on the others!). The stretch from 11-13 on the back 9 offers an “Amen Corner” type feel if you squint just right, and between 13 and 14 you have the plaque where the whole notion of Bandon Dunes golf resort was born — so make the pit stop for a gorgeous view. As for food, I’d suggest eating at the practice range BBQ truck over anything they have at this clubhouse — you won’t go wrong, but it was my least favorite of the lunch spots on campus."
