AUGUSTA, Ga.—Harold Varner III is known for rocking purple ensembles, a color Varner calls “the color of kings” and the tones of his beloved East Carolina University.

But Varner showed up to the Masters Par 3 Contest Wednesday afternoon in a sky blue outfit. An outfit, Varner said, that is the result of a lost bet with Michael Jordan.

"I said I'd wear these shoes and [North] Carolina gear if Carolina beat Duke,” Varner said, referencing the recent matchup of rivals in the Final Four. “And what do you know, something crazy happened."

That something crazy was the underdog Tar Heels sending Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski into retirement with a loss.

Varner is sponsored by Jordan’s apparel line, rocking His Airness’ logo from head-to-toe.

Varner is making his Masters debut this week, earning an invite thanks to being inside the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 50.
