Live sports remain undefeated as Sky Sports cameraman takes mid-interview digger at Scottish Championship

October 15, 2020

While the PGA Tour’s best and brightest get ready to tee it up at Shadow Creek in sunny, glitzy, glammy Las Vegas, hangovers and all, the European Tour’s elite are being greeted by slightly different conditions at the Scottish Championship. Gray skies, brisk offshore breezes, intermittent rain, and highs in the low 50s have been the order of the day at Fairmont St. Andrews, keeping things seasonally spooky on the moors of Scotland. But despite the gloomy mood, there were still plenty of fireworks on Thursday, owing largely to one Sky Sports cameraman, who took a spill mid-walk-n’-talk with Marc Warren in a clip that has now gone charmingly viral.

You just can’t script stuff like this. Movies, TV, Dickens. Nothing compares to the unpredictable drama of live sports. Granted, this is a cameraman taking a tumble while the 33rd-ranked player in Europe babbles on about Batman, not Tiger completing the comeback of all comebacks or Jon Rahm jarring a 66-foot walk-off in playoff overtime. But still, this is why we watch. It’s fun to see something like this on Twitter. It’s a zillion times better to watch it happen unfold in real time from the comfort of your own sweatpants.

So thoughts and prayers for this selfless hero, who won’t live this down in the TV truck for as long as he lives. We thank him for his service and sacrifice. Let’s get out there and do it all again tomorrow, shall we?
