U.S. Open 2022: Shane Lowry is going to be a very popular guy at The Country Club on Thursday

Shane Lowry is a likable lad. He has a major to his name. He enjoys a pint from time to time. He’s affable and relatable and all that good stuff. But he’s no superstar. He’s nobody’s favorite golfer. All that is about to change on Thursday at The Country Club, however, where Lowry is about to become the most popular guy in the Commonwealth.

An Irishman rocking a Celtics logo five miles from Boston hours before the tip of Game 6 of the NBA Finals? If you’ll excuse the pun, that’s a slam dunk—an absolute masterclass in working the crowd, right up there with Tiger’s Sunday red and Brooks offering to buy everyone free beers if they make fun of Bryson. Making matters even better for Lowry is the fact that he’ll be paired with LIV Golf defectors Phil Mickelson and Louis Oosthuizen. It’s a perfect storm of good vibes for the 2019 champion golfer of the year.

As for the Celtics, the prospects aren’t quite as rosy. They’re banged up, have lost two straight, and will be facing elimination on home court on Thursday night. Can they rally to make the weekend? A little bit of Lowry’s Irish luck certainly wouldn’t hurt.
