a Round of A-Paws

Rye, the bird-hunting English Springer Spaniel, was the breakout star of the WM Phoenix Open

February 14, 2023

It certainly takes a lot of work to put together a triumphant Waste Management, especially when considering the drunkards working hard to bring the chaos. However, when it comes to the MVP(uppy), there’s no one better than Rye the English Springer Spaniel.

Employed by TPC Scottsdale, Rye (named after the grass, of course) has been running around the Stadium Course since she was seven weeks old. She’s not just a freeloader, however, as she keeps away the migratory birds that try to feast on the grass.

“She’s pretty fearless and definitely not shy and will jump in a cart with anyone, looking for a French fry, or chip, or hotdog,” Hebert told 12News.

Almost three now, Rye has become a mainstay at the WM Phoenix Open and is the “bird dog” every course should have. Rye’s grandmother was also a course dog in Flagstaff, so she's a nepo baby as well.

There’s a lot to look forward to every Phoenix Open, but the chaos on 16 has nothing on Rye the English Springer Spaniel.
