British Open 2022: If you still haven’t heard the Open Radio commentary of that Rory McIlroy hole-out, run don’t walk
On Saturday at the 150th Open, Rory McIlroy holed out for eagle from a greenside bunker on the 10th hole, vaulting to the top of the leaderboard while sending the gallery (and internet) into a state of collective cardiac arrest. It was pure “limbs” as they say across the pond.
But if you couldn’t believe your eyes, just wait until you hear it with your ears. Here’s the call as it happened on Open Radio. Sound way the hell up.

Say what you want about soggy peas, driving on the left side of the road, and no air conditioning, but the Brits absolutely have us lapped in the commentary arena. This is delivered with the all the gusto of Martin Tyler watching Lionel Messi send Jerome Boateng to an early grave. In fact, just close your eyes, press play, and imagine Rory’s ball trickling over the lip as Tyler purrs. It’s perfect.
Will McIlroy give Open Radio another reason to shout “MAGISTERIAL!” at the heavens on Sunday? That remains to be seen, but lord knows we’ll be listening.
