British Open 2022: Scottie Scheffler was just as excited for Rory McIlroy’s eagle as the St. Andrews fans
It seems like everyone and their mother is pulling for Rory McIlroy in Scotland.
Eight years off from his last major, the Northern Irishman shot a 33 on the front nine on Saturday and followed that up on No. 10 with an eagle out of the bunker to catch up to the equally-on-fire Viktor Hovland.
Perhaps you’ve seen this already (live or otherwise), but let’s watch it again. Golf is fun.
As the crowd erupted in rapturous glee, the cameras caught Scottie Scheffler and Dustin Johnson glancing at each other and smirking knowing what they’re up against with the fan-favorite getting hot at St. Andrews.
Just look at Scheffler. What we’ve got here is—what we call in the business—a hell of a good time.
Game recognizes game, indeed. We’re in for a great one at the Old Course with a loaded leaderboard and the best in the world all trying to one-up each other.
