After two years of waiting, the MLB’s “Field of Dreams” is here and it is b-e-a-utiful

August 8th, 2019. That’s the publish date on the first story we ran about the MLB’s “Field of Dreams” game, originally scheduled to be held on August 13th, 2020. Unfortunately, we all know what happened in 2020, and it damn sure wasn’t Yankees-White Sox in the same Iowa cornfield as Kevin Costner’s 1989 classic.

Now, however, after nearly 24 months of waiting, postponements, and eventually the complete erasure of the event from our collective consciousness, the "Field of Dreams" game is suddenly, finally upon us, and this sneak peek makes the Great American Ballpark look like Soviet Russia. Feast your eyes on those amber waves of grain, folks.

So obviously this is a gimmick, and like NASCAR’s great dirt-track experiment, which was hampered by rain and dust and cautions and COVID last year, there’s bound to be some growing pains. But who cares if the audio cuts out for an inning and Rob Manfred chips a tooth on some corn on the cob when it looks this damn good? Hell, even Nick Offerman must be impressed and that dude hates ‘Field of Dreams.’

Anyway, if this has piqued your interest in what is essentially the Little League World Series minus the “little,” you can catch the whole thing on Aug. 12th at 7 p.m. live on Fox. God bless America. Amen.
