Masters 2023: 8 photos that tell the story of Tiger Woods' frustrating first round at Augusta

It is what it is. That would seem to be the natural response to watching Tiger Woods play golf post-car accident. Yes, we’re talking about Tiger Woods, 82-time PGA Tour winner, 15-time major champions. But we’re talking about a 47 playing on a surgically repaired right foot that only lets him play a handful of times each year. What can you really expect?

And so you take the two-over 74 he shot during the first round of the 2023 Masters, and you understand, well, it is what it is. And what it was was three birdies, five bogeys and plenty of frustration.

"I didn't give myself very good looks," Woods said after the round. "Need to do a better job of that going forward to hopefully get myself back in this tournament."

Woods congratulated Viktor Hovland, his playing partner, who shot a seven-under 65 to grab a share of the lead.
