You might think this is a joke. Surely Kevin Durant can’t be serious. But we have a newsflash for you, Walter Cronkite: He is … and don’t call him Shirley.
Laughable indeed, but not for the reasons Durant thinks it is. Exercising the restraint of a saint, Durant said he would have been happy to settle for a humble 99. No need to flatter him with a perfect 100. He’s not that kind of guy. Ego isn’t important. Just a plain, workmanlike 99. Nevermind the fact that no player in the game earned a 99. Nevermind the fact the highest-rated player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, is ranked a solitary point higher than Durant. Only a 99 would do. Is that too much to ask?
Apparently it was, and the resulting 96 absolutely torpedoed Durant’s day (and week, and month, and, well, you get the idea).
Could this be the start of a big chip-on-the-shoulder season for KD? Could this light a fire under the ass of Nets nation, propelling them all the way to the championship, where KD will battle through an iconic “Seasonal Affective Disorder Game” with “96” scrawled on his sneakers in blood-red sharpie? All that remains to be seen, but for now let’s just sit back, relax, and watch the Slim Reaper cook … on Twitter that is.
