Masters 2022: World's top amateur, Keita Nakajima, signs multi-year deal with TaylorMade
As Keita Nakajima, the world's top-ranked men's amateur, prepares to play in the Masters, he will do so knowing that although he will not receive any prize money as an amateur. He will not, however, walk away from the week empty-handed as he has signed a multi-year agreement with TaylorMade. The 21-year-old Japan native will have a full bag of TaylorMade equipment and wear TaylorMade apparel in competition, starting this week in Augusta.
Nakajima is in the field due to his win in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, an event twice won by defending champion and countryman Hideki Matsuyama. In addition to the Asia-Pacific, Nakajima has wins at the Australian Amateur Championship, Japanese Amateur Championship and the Panasonic Open on the Japanese Tour. He also finished T-28 at the 2021 Zozo Championship. He has held the top spot on the World Amateur Golf Ranking for 63 weeks, earned the Mark H. McCormack Medal as the world’s top amateur in 2021 and actually ranks 239th in the World Ranking.
Nakajima played a practice round at the Zozo with another TaylorMade staffer, Collin Morikawa. “Keita striped the ball, that is one of the biggest things I saw,” Morikawa said in a statement from TaylorMade. “Everything sounded amazing. He was hitting it really straight. He is someone that is going to have a great future ahead of him.”
That future—which includes being currently enrolled at the Nippon Sport Science University in Tokyo—continues this week at Augusta National where Nakajima will play a full bag of TaylorMade equipment including the company’s new Stealth Plus driver.
