U.S. Open 2025: Jon Rahm puts full chest behind hot-mic F-bomb for the ages after missed putt at Oakmont

June 13, 2025
Save for later

With sadistic conditions battering the field through a round-and-a-half at Oakmont, it was only a matter of time before tempers began to flare. Early Friday afternoon, they finally did, as putt after putt after putt slid by and ran away, leaving the world’s best golfers wondering if they’d have better luck with a hockey stick and skates on the rink-like greens.

If you had money on Jon Rahm as the first guy to unleash a scorching hot-mic moment, you’re in luck. Late in his rocky second round, Rahm was heard chastising himself after an errant tee shot. He kept things comfortably PG-13, but the lid was beginning to rattle. After burning another edge a short while later, the frustrations finally boiled over as Rahm slumped over, putting his hands on his knees for a full six Mississippi. Slowly he rose to full height, looked at empty cup in disbelief and put his entire 6’ 2” frame behind one of the most emphatic F-bombs you will ever hear. SOUND UP.

U.S. Open golf, ladies and gentlemen. You asked for it, you got it. In fact, the only shocking thing about this outburst is that it didn’t happen sooner as the field—including Rahm’s even more potty-mouthed Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton—slogged through a punitive Pennsylvania morning.

One man who wasn’t cursing, however, was Sam Burns, who posted the third lowest score in Oakmont’s U.S. Open history with a remarkable second-round 65. That’s a full 10 shots better than what Rahm mustered on Friday, but let’s just keep that between us … at least until Rahmbo cools down.
