Poor Hunter Mahan had his best round in ages and all anyone wanted to do was make mullet jokes

    February 12, 2021

Hunter Mahan drew a lot of attention on Thursday at Pebble Beach. Unfortunately, it wasn't just for his play.

First, let's start with his golf, though. Mahan fired a first-round 67 at the AT&T to put himself among the early leaders. That's a big deal because it feels like it's been a long time since we've seen his name on a leader board anywhere. It also appears like it's been a long time since Mahan has gotten a haircut. And you better belive people noticed.

Here's a sampling of Golf Twitter getting on Mahan's mullet—and his sunglasses:

I get being scared of getting a bad haircut like Brooks Koepka during quarantine, but does Hunter not realize barbershops are back open?

Seriously, though, it's good to see him playing well again. The six-time PGA Tour winner was once as high as No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but entered this week ranked 1,608th. And in case you're wondering, yeah, that's about as far down as you can be in the OWGR.

But there's still time for the 38-year-old to rejuvenate his career. Just look at Stewart Cink, who is suddenly a world-beater again at 47.

So keep grinding, Hunter. Just maybe get a cut—especially if you plan on being in front of the cameras more.
