High school golf coach knocked out while trying to break up fight between students, ends up in hospital

There were scary scenes in Harris Country, Texas this week where a Klein Oak High School golf coach was rushed to the hospital after being knocked unconscious while breaking up a fight between students.

As the cellphone footage shows, the coach attempted to stand his ground between the two students as the altercation spiraled out of control in a physical education class. The assailant charged the coach at full speed. The force of the collision sent him sprawling backward, striking his head on the concrete walkway. He appeared to have been knocked out immediately as the two students continued to fight. You can watch the video below, but be warned, it is graphic.

Several students appeared to come to the coach’s aid before he was transported to a local hospital, where he remained as of Thursday. Witnesses were asked about the coach’s condition immediately following the attack and described it as “not good.”

Klein Independent School District issued the following statement about the incident:

“An employee sustained injuries today while intervening in an altercation between two students. During the incident, a student assaulted the employee, resulting in bodily injury. The employee is currently undergoing medical treatment. Felony charges have been accepted against the student who assaulted our employee in addition to the highest level of disciplinary actions according to the Student Code of Conduct, including expulsion. Additional charges may be pursued as the investigation continues. We have zero tolerance for this inexcusable behavior.”

Our thoughts go out to the coach’s family and loved ones and we hope he’s back on the range soon.
