On paper, there was reason to think that of the two co-leaders entering the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open, one should be considered the clear favorite, the drama of Saturday’s third round not withstanding.

Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz was the more recent winner on the PGA Tour, having claimed victory at the Vivint Houston Open in November. Yet it was just the first PGA Tour title for the 29-year-old compared to the eight that Patrick Reed has won during his career, one in which he’s claimed victories in seven of the last eight seasons and has a major title to his credit (2018 Masters). There’s also the fact that Reed, 30, has held the outright lead or a share of it entering the final round of a tour event seven previous times and converted five of those into victories.

Make that six of eight. With a steady Sunday 68, Reed closed out another tour title, winning by five.

As Reed has proven following other controversial moments in his career—most notably the 2019 Presidents Cup—public scrutiny doesn’t faze him. It really shouldn’t have been a surprise, then, that Reed would not succumb to the potential distraction of the rules issue he was involved in Saturday at Torrey Pines South (where there were questions surrounding the embedded-ball relief he took on the 10th hole).

Suffice it to say, there was plenty to play for on Sunday. The overall prize money payout at this week’s tour stop is $7.5 million with Reed earning $1.35 million for his victory, bringing his career earnings to $33.5 million.

Here’s the prize money payout for each golfer who made the cut at Torrey Pines.
