Golf category on Jeopardy! features (mildly) controversial clue
We here at The Loop love nothing more than seeing Jeopardy! contestants butcher sports clues. It makes us feel better about our knowledge of the world. And by "the world," of course, we mean the sports world.
But when the focus is on golf, even better. And it's incredibly rare when our beloved game gets an entire category dedicated to it on America's favorite quiz show, which is what happened on Friday. Exciting stuff! And, actually, two of the contestants did quite well, correctly answering four of the five clues from a first-round column.
But it's the one clue that stumped all three that has our attention. Because the answer is one of golf's most-disputed terms. Something that our friend Ryan French, AKA Monday Q Info on Twitter, pointed out.
But Ryan was about to hear back from an avid Jeopardy! fan, who goes by The Jeopardy! Fan, in fact.
Damn. Apparently, you don't mess with Jeopardy! fans! Well, at least not THE Jeopardy! Fan! And this person wasn't done spitting knowledge:
That's a lot of "double eagle" clues! What a pull. This person has to be the foremost expert on Jeopardy! on the planet.
To be fair to Ryan, the term "double eagle" really doesn't make any sense. But to be fair to Jeopardy!—and The Jeopardy! Fan because we don't want to get on their bad side as well—it's a term that gets used by many golf fans, and the "old coin" part of the clue clearly steered people away from "albatross." Anyway, I think we can all agree that we need more golf clues on the show. This was fun!
