Charles Schwab Challenge 2021 odds: Phil Mickelson's odds to win are surprisingly long after historic PGA triumph

This is the week where it all started. The 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge was the first event back post-COVID-19, and we were never so happy to have professional golf back. We had an exciting result, too, with Daniel Berger edging Collin Morikawa in a playoff—and Xander Schauffele being there until the end.

We’ll hope for an equally thrilling Charles Schwab Challenge in 2021 to quench our golf thirst after one of the most memorable major championships in recent memory. The field at iconic Colonial County Club, which has held a PGA Tour event since 1946, missing just a few years in between, is strong as it usually is. Jordan Spieth, a winner at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio just a few weeks ago, opens as the betting favorite above his buddy Justin Thomas. JT is the only one of the favorites who made an early exit from the PGA Championship. Berger, the defending champ, also had a rough week at Kiawah Island, finishing T-75 and 10-over.

And we’ve failed to mention Phil Mickelson’s name until this point. The victor at Kiawah is in the field as of this writing, pegged at 50-1. Colonial is known for being a tight, tree-lined ball-striker’s paradise. Can Phil’s bombs translate to Ben Hogan’s old jaunt?
