Old Dog, New Tricks

Charles Barkley's Champions Tour stripe show continued at the Regions Tradition pro-am on Wednesday

Last weekend, we shared yet another positive update on the swing of sir Charles Barkley. Once known across the globe as humankind’s worst golfer, the old dog has picked up a few new tricks of late and now looks downright menacing off the tee. If you thought Chuck’s stripe show at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic was impressive, however, just wait until you see the surface-to-air missile he launched on the first tee of the Regions Tradition pro-am on Wednesday.

Absolutely smoked. And look at the quick pickup of that tee. Tiger-esque from the Auburn Tiger. “I didn’t even look at it,” Barkley admits. “Where did that go?”

“I lost it at 300 yards,” replies playing partner Bo Jackson, no stranger to chewing up yards himself.

But it was more than just first-tee heroics for the Chuckster at Greystone on Wednesday. Barkley also put on a clinic before his round, saying “I’m playing great right now, I’m not gonna lie” before pounding one beautiful iron after another into the Alabama sky. Don't ever let anyone tell you miracles aren't real, folks.

Golf is a fickle game and it’s only a matter of time until the other spike drops, but it’s good to see Barkley out there playing well and feeling confident with his swing. Must be nice.
