Charles Barkley's golf swing looks stunningly good (by Charles Barkley standards)

May 06, 2022

It feels like we've written a version of the headline "Charles Barkley's golf swing looks good!" a bunch of times over the last two years, probably because we have (here, here, and here). This is a good thing! We stan a king who continues to make incremental improvements to a swing that was once so abhorrent that it made you wonder if he was even getting any joy out of playing the game.

Well, we're happy to report that the latest version of the Chuckster's move is the best it has ever looked, though we have no video footage of the swing that once had him shooting in the 70s, according to Michael Jordan. We doubt Charles is breaking 80 again yet, but he's clearly on the right path. Here's Barkley striping one with the help of Darren Clarke at TPC Sugarloaf, site of this week's PGA Tour Champions event, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic:

Here's another one of Chuck's rips below (slide two):

Credit to Clarke for gassing Chuck up. Encouragement is paramount in the swing-improvement game. But the most credit goes to swing instructor Stan Utley, who began working with Barkley in 2018 and has quite literally fixed the unfixable in the four years since. Remember, it wasn't that long ago (2020) when he was still struggling with it, on live television, no less:

Truly miraculous stuff. And a reminder to everyone that no matter how bad it seems, there's always tomorrow and there's always room for improvement. Golf.
