Breakfast of Champions

Cal baseball enjoyed some 2:30 a.m. Whataburger after taking down UCLA in the Pac-12 tourney on Thursday

All across the nation, college baseball’s May Madness is underway. The less-popular, bookworm sibling of March Madness, May Madness doesn’t always get its due, but make no mistake, the annual build up to the College World Series is just as insane as its hardcourt brethren's. On Thursday alone, we saw yuge homers …

… high-flying heists …

… and even some classic glue-in-the-glove hi-jinx.

The highlight of the day, however, belonged to Cal baseball, who upset the three-seed UCLA Bruins in the wee hours of Thursday morning and then washed it all down with some 2:30 a.m. Whataburger. Ah college, don’t you miss it?

The Golden Bears’ Pac-12 Tournament showdown with the Bruins was scheduled for 8:30 p.m. PST, but the previous game ran late and by the time the first pitch crossed the plate, it was 10:15 p.m. local time in Scottsdale. Cal used that to their advantage, however, and when the game finally ended well past midnight, they had worked up quite an appetite. Not much is open in Scottsdale that time of night, so Whataburger it was.

Not that anyone was complaining. To the victor go the burgers, after all.
