On Wednesday, we showed you Rory McIlroy, draped in an oversized gold jacket, as he paid tribute to Happy Gilmore’s fake Tour Championship at the real Tour Championship. During the brief video, McIlroy says, “Hey Adam, Rory here. Fellow Tour Champion winner. I just want to say sorry you can’t be here this week.”
So why couldn’t Adam Sandler make his own coronation at East Lake? Was it COVID restrictions? His shooting schedule? A talk show appearance? Well, we now know the answer: He was too busy balling out with half the damn NBA.
We all know the only thing Sandler loves more than golf is pickup basketball, preferably in quadruple XL shorts with a roster of NBA whose who’s. In this case, that included Trae Young, Tobias Harris, Aaron Gordon, Jordan Clarkson, and more. There was even a Boban sighting, leading the imaginative mind to wonder about the casting of Mr. Larson (or perhaps Mr. Larson Jr.) in the long-mooted ‘Happy Gilmore’ sequel.
All in all, not a bad excuse for missing out on a five minute meet-n’-greet with McIlroy. Besides, it looks like the two are already working on a make-up date …
