The Norwegian who has quietly become a force on the PGA Tour (four top-10s and a win this year) is feeling truly at home this week at Wentworth in England. He shot 64 in the third round on Saturday and is tied for sixth, only two shots off the lead.

“This is my home tour, and it's nice to come back, and also play well enough on the PGA Tour that I can actually afford to come back here and finish off the season where you want to finish it off,“ Reitan said.

With the event just outside of London and Reitan finishing earlier in the day, he was considering making the one-hour drive to Brighton to catch his football club of choice, Arsenal, play. “I got my manager to look for Arsenal tickets, maybe, maybe not,” he said.

Well, the golfer had a far better day than the reigning title-holder Gunners, who were routed by Brighton 3-0 in their first loss of the season. Taking a nap would have been a better play.

That matters because the 2025 U.S. Open champion is definitely feeling slighted by not being picked for captain Brandt Snedeker’s American squad that will play in the Presidents Cup next week. Spaun said on Friday in England, “It’s disappointing to be left off. I wasn’t really expecting it, to be honest.”

Spaun essentially lost his spot to one of two Cup rookies in Jackson Koivun and Jacob Bridgeman, but he certainly had a case: He went 2-1-0 in the U.S. loss in last year’s Ryder Cup and his four top-10s this season included a win in the Valero Texas Open. But Snedeker looked elsewhere, and Spaun could produce the ultimate “told you so” with a win in one of Europe’s premier events.

With the late U.S. win in Saturday fourball on the strength of Jennifer Kupcho’s incredible putting, the U.S. forged an 8-8 tie with Europe, and the 12 players will now go head-to-head in singles to decide who holds the Cup. As the defending champions, the Americans need six points to at least earn a tie and retain the trophy.

The pairings have been established, and in the very first match, Europe’s top-ranked player, Charley Hull, who is winless this week, will take on American sparkplug Megan Khang. The anchor 12th match, if it were to come down to the end, pits Rose Zhang against Celine Boutier.

U.S captain Angela Stanford slotted World No. 1 Nelly Korda in the No. 4 spot and she will take on Mimi Rhodes. And for the most fiery matchup? That one’s easy. Kupcho against Europe stalwart Carlota Ciganda in the penultimate pairing. It'd be tremendous theater if they could go the distance. 

Cameras caught "Aunty Nelly" happily being a “babysitter” on the first tee as the group introductions were made. To which one poster replied, "Maybe you could actually get her on the golf course." But benching herself on Day 2 is a standard procedure for the American star, who has now played only one best-ball match in each of her five appearances for Team USA. The strategy would seem to be that Korda, 27, gets some rest before singles. That has worked at a 50-percent clip. She won singles in her first two appearances, but has lost the last two, including a 6-and-4 rout at the hands of Charley Hull in 2024. Most impressive has been the grit shown by American Lauren Coughlin, who will play in five matches at the age of 33.

She was reminded of that when TV commentator Tom Abbott interviewed Lee and Megan Khang after their afternoon 4-and-3 fourball win at the Solheim Cup. “At the start of the year, you and I were co-workers,” Lee reminded Abbott with a smile.

Impressively, Lee qualified for the U.S. team with a strong season, and she opened the Solheim by going 2-0 with two different partners. “It means so much,” Lee said. “It was really, really hard to get here. A lot of long days trying to practice, sleepless nights, just trying to do my best to be the best mom I can as well. To make it here and to be here putting two points on the board for USA is, is awesome.”

How it plays out will determine if it was smart or not. Organizers expect as many as 6,000 people to bike to the venue, but there is rain and fog in the forecast for some parts of all three competitive days. Maybe that’s nothing to the Dutch and they’ll ride in droves. If not, then either attendance could drop dramatically or the shuttle system could potentially become overwhelmed if people want to grab transportation at the last minute. Foremost in organizers’ minds has to be the transportation disaster of 2024 in Virginia, when fans waited hours for shuttles on the first day and, much to the dismay of the players, the first tee stands were nearly empty in the morning. To allow something like that to happen again is unthinkable.

It was on a Sunday in early August that the Southern California club pro walked off the course in the middle of the final round of the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in Scotland. Controversy ensued because it was reported that Block left the course without notifying officials—a bad look, of course—but Block later insisted to Golf Digest that he was injured and told the official who drove him in from the course. That was Block’s second mistake of the day after he was docked two strokes for being late to his tee time, because his WD was not reported to the scoring office and he was official DQ’d.

All of that to say that Block, 50, is perfectly healthy now and threatening to capture his first senior title in his fifth PGA Tour Champions start. Playing in the Ally Challenge on a sponsor exemption, Block shot 66-65 in the first two rounds and headed into Sunday at Warwick Hills in Michigan with a two-shot lead. A $330,000 win would be huge for Block’s senior career, and he’d also share the experience with his son, Ethan, who is carrying his bag. “Ethan is the level-headed human out of my family," Block said. “It's a Godsend that he's on my bag because I'm the least level-headed human being in the world.”

Yin played her first tournament in two months at the FM Championship this week, coming off an undisclosed illness, and her play was understandably rough. She opened with an 81 and then bounced back a bit with a 76 on Friday, but was still last in the field through 36 holes. After a 35-pound weight loss due to her ailment, Yin, 27, has no more chances to prove her golf fitness before the Solheim, and a call has to be made on a player who automatically made the team at No. 2. Yin is a no-brainer for the squad when healthy, but seems like a problematic work around if she’s on the team trying to win in Europe for the first time since 2015. Meantime, European captain Anna Nordqvist shot 68 on Friday to make the cut and should get a proper farewell on Sunday in what the 39-year-old says will be her final competitive tournament.

Less than two hours before Golf Channel was to premiere “Big Beak x Good Good” on Tuesday, the cable network put out a social media announcement that it had postponed the program until next Sept. 1. Golf Channel said in a post, which included the series’ logo, “This will allow for necessary production updates following a request from one of the show’s sponsors to remove its branding from the series.”

This new “Big Break” is set to be the first to air since 2015 and is the 24th edition of the competition franchise. The delay in its debut comes on the same day that Callaway and Good Good issued further apologies about an ad for a Good Good-logoed version of the new Quantum driver in which a male golfer shoves a female golfer to the ground. In a press conference on Tuesday, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp expressed disappointment with the two companies’ handling of the ad and their initial handling of the reactions to it, and he deemed the standing of the upcoming inaugural Good Good Championship as “fluid.”

He was immediately intrigued, but like many others, the World No. 2 had to start designing a bracket in his head for the 16-man final week, with the players competing all four days. The way it pencils out is that on the final day there will be eight matches ranging from the title showdown to two guys playing for 15th and 16th place. (With plenty of big cash on the line, of course). “One thing I said to Brian (Rolapp, PGA Tour CEO) is, you really want to win a few matches that second week; it’s going to be hard for some guys to be playing match play and playing for 14th position or whatever it is,” McIlroy said on Tuesday amid player reaction to the tour announcements.

Of the match-play idea, McIlroy said, “I think they’ve taken a big swing, and, conceptually, I like it.” The Ulsterman did assert that the match play should be viewed as a standalone event. “It’s going to be it’s own deal,” he said. “… If you got in and you were the 32nd seed, I don't think you could put your hand up and say ‘I was the best player of the season’ if you go ahead and win the Tour Championship.”

HyFlyers GC, captained from the beginning by Phil Mickelson (though absent most of this year), has never won a team title in any event over five seasons. However, in a “better late than never” scenario, the HyFlyers are one shot behind Legion XIII heading into Sunday’s last round of LIV’s season finale in Indianapolis and are being paced by the 2025 NCAA individual champion. Ole Miss alum Michael La Sasso—he of the massive calves—shot 60 on Friday and 66 on Saturday and has a one-shot edge over Laurie Canter in trying to win his first pro title.

If you remember, La Sasso signed with LIV in January and gave up both his final year of college eligibility and an invite to the Masters. It might be years before the 22-year-old can figure out if it was worth it. La Sasso has certainly made some good cash. According to the website Sportac, he’s earned more than $2.4 million on LIV this year, not counting whatever his signing bonus was. Too bad for him that a win in Indy would also come in the now-cash-strapped circuit that had to cut this purse in half, with $2.04 million going to the champion instead of $4 million.

He wasn’t backing too far off that on the weekend but admitted that Wyndham Clark’s stunning play in the BMW Championship gives he and his peers something to think about. Clark headed into the final round at Bellerive five shots up on the field, and a victory would give him three wins on the year, including the U.S. Open and a playoff title. Scheffler, meantime, has two wins, including his eight-shot rout in last week's FedEx St. Jude, and five runners-up.

“What Wyndham is doing this week, if he keeps playing the way he is, it's a conversation,” McIlroy told CBS after shooting 65 to get into a tie for second and into Sunday’s final group. The Ulsterman compared it to 2019, when he was named Player of the Year after winning the Players and FedEx Cup, while Brooks Koepka had three victories, including the PGA. "It's what your peers value," McIlroy said.

The difference for McIlroy remains Scheffler’s “unbelievable” consistency. “You look at Scottie's statistical profile, it's just like he's number one in strokes gained, he's number one in scoring average, he's number one in, like, so many statistical categories." To that point, Scheffler is top six in the tour’s three main stats categories (off-the-tee, approach and putting); Clark is top-20 in none.

By going 66-66 to open the BMW Championship at Bellerive, Thorbjornsen headed into the weekend in the projected 30th and last spot to make it to East Lake next week. The kid, who won his first title in Detroit this month, can certainly run hot and cold. In his last five starts, he’s gone Cut/T-7/T-40/Win/T-47. He’s mostly been impressive, though, with eight top-25s in 21 appearances. The Tour Championship bubble projections look like this right now: Thorbjornsen, Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott and Ryan Fox are the last five in; the last five out, from 31st, are Patrick Cantlay, Kurt Kitayama, Rickie Fowler, Bud Cauley and J.T. Poston.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Tiger Woods’ 17-year-old son will start classes this coming week at the private Benjamin School. It’s also golf season for the boys there, and Woods is part of a stellar team that won the Class 1A Florida High School Athletic Association title. Charlie, who shot 68 in the second round at state, was the Post’s Small School Co-Player of the Year last season with his Buccaneers teammate Andrew Tsar. This was not a standout summer for Woods, who ranks 311th in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. His best stroke-play finish was a T-28 in the Team TaylorMade Invitational, while Woods rallied to get into a 14-for-2 playoff in the U.S. Junior Am, only to miss advancing. Barring a dramatic change, Charlie will be playing golf at Florida State at this time next year.

The Oklahoma State senior was awarded the Mark H. McCormack Medal on Wednesday as the No. 1-ranked male in the 2026 World Amateur Golf Ranking. With the honor, which is awarded jointly by the USGA and R&A, the 22-year-old Texan gets exemptions into two majors in 2027—the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and 155th Open at the Old Course. Stout won five times in the 2025-26 college season, including the individual NCAA title and the Big 12 Championship, which he captured for a record third time. We’ll next see Stout when he plays for the U.S. Walker Cup team in Ireland, Sept 5-6.

Locals are calling this the worst bug summer in years because of record-breaking June rainfall in Alberta, and the mosquitos are still buzzing along at Royal Mayfair Golf Club. There are reports that the mosquito population is 15 times larger than normal. Yikes. It's so bad that Ko said she tried three different insect repellents during her practice round— “don’t know if there’s one that actually works.”

“I said to myself the only goal this week is to survive long sleeves and long pants and long socks, because I am not showing skin where it's like unnecessary,” Ko added. “I'm pretty known to wear a lot of sleeveless shirts, so there will be no arms showing this week. Just trying to be as covered and not become like buffet meat for the mosquitoes.”

Bugs aside, the Hall of Famer is happy to return to the venue of her second career victory in 2013. She now has 23 wins.
