Jackson Koivun’s rapidly rising profile in professional golf will reach another milestone next month: He’s playing in the made-for-TV Skins Game.
The 21-year-old Koivun, who already has a PGA Tour victory and appearance in the Presidents Cup in a pro career that didn’t start until June, will join multiple-major winners Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Wyndham Clark for the Skins on Black Friday, Nov. 27, at Atlantic Fields Club in Hobe Sound, Fla. The total purse is $4 million.
The event will be televised at 9 a.m. ET on Prime, beginning a day in which the streamer will also have an NBA doubleheader and the Steelers-Broncos NFL game. The title sponsor is Farmers Insurance, which has also been highly visible in TGL broadcasts while ending its longtime sponsorship of the PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines.
The Skins Game was a Thanksgiving weekend staple for more than two decades, from 1986 to 2008, but then disappeared until last year, when Capitol One was the title sponsor, and Keegan Bradley came out on top, winning $2.1 million against Xander Schauffele, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood.
As reported by Sports Business Journal, PGA Tour Studios will produce this year’s Skins Game after TMRW Sports—whose holdings include TGL—did the event last year.
Koivun led Auburn to the NCAA national championship in June, then turned pro, and in seven starts has a win in the 3M Open and a T-5 in Asheville. He's expected to play three more times in the PGA Tour's Fall Series, where he's currently in the No. 67 spot.
In the Skins game, Koivun will be reunted with Thomas, with whom he played twice in the Presidents Cup. The pair earned 1½ points and both won their singles matches in the Americans' comeback win.
