The first actual photos of Fight Island are here and it looks like a bloody paradise

Back in March, when this whole COVID-19 thing first made landfall, Dana White announced initial plans for ‘Fight Island’—an isolated paradise far beyond the reach of mainland morays where the cracking of skulls and coconuts could ring together forever in some sort of twisted combat sport conga. At the time, we called it “the most Mortal Kombat thing ever” and if these first photos of the actual Fight Island on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi are any indication, we may have been right (for once.)

Check it out, IG influencers, travel vloggers, and sadists.

Maybe it’s just the cabin fever talking, but honestly we’d go a couple rounds with Jorge Masvidal in exchange for a tropical getaway right now. There’s no telling if Kamaru Usman—who will finally make good on his long-running beef with Masvidal on Saturday night after Gilbert Burns was forced to withdraw—feels the same, but he’s undefeated in his 10 UFC appearances, so chances are the answer is a resounding yup.

That surprise (and potentially all-time) bout headlines UFC 251, which rings in Fight Island on Saturday night with a stacked fight card including Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway, Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo, Jessica Andrade vs. Rose Namajunas, and Amanda Ribas vs. Paige van Zant. If you blackout on mojitos before the main card, however, don’t beat yourself up too hard. Fight Island will return July 15th, 18th, and 25th for more action. Here’s hoping Scorpion’s COVID tests come back negative before then.
