Masters 2021: Steph Curry rocks Lee Elder tribute kicks on Saturday night, drops 38

Early on Thursday, with the morning fog still burning off and most players and patrons just heading down to their continental breakfasts, a small crowd gathered at Augusta National's first tee to honor Lee Elder—the first-ever black man to play at the Masters tournament. It was both much-deserved and long-overdue, and proved to be a touching way to kick off the week (if not for some smarminess from one of his fellow honorary tee shotees).

A lot has happened since then. Missed cuts, rain delays, Spieth making birdie from wherever the hell this was, but on Saturday night Steph Curry made sure everyone remembered Elder’s barrier-breaking performance in 1975, rocking these awesome Under Armour tribute kicks during warm-ups before the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Houston Rockets. Feast your eyes.

Curry would go on to score 38 points on eight threes, including 23 in a scorching-hot third quarter, to log his sixth-straight 30-point game (the longest such streak of his career). Was the magic of Lee Elder at work or was it just the Houston Rockets? Science says the Rockets, but our hearts say Elder.
