Almost five years since announcing it had signed Rory McIlroy to an endorsement deal during Players week, TaylorMade has inked another high-level equipment free agent, signing Scottie Scheffler—winner in two of his past three tournaments—to a multiyear pact.

Though terms of the deal were not disclosed, it will include Scheffler playing the company’s Stealth Plus driver, Stealth fairway woods and P·7TW irons, as well as a TaylorMade staff bag. If the fairway wood is in the bag this week it would mark a change from the venerable Nike VR Pro 3-wood Scheffler has been gaming.

“I’ve worked with TaylorMade’s team on tour for multiple seasons and their commitment to getting the right equipment in my bag was a driving force in joining Team TaylorMade,” Scheffler said in a company press release announcing the deal.

Scheffler, 25, put the TaylorMade Stealth Plus in the bag at his first start of 2022 at the American Express in January after noticing ball-speed gains during testing. The P·7TW irons have been in play since the 2021 American Express after previously playing TaylorMade’s P·730 irons.

Scheffler comes into the Players on a heater, having won last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WM Phoenix Open just two starts earlier. The wins follow a steady stretch of good play since turning professional as Scheffler has 12 top-five finishes and 20 top-10 finishes, including three top-10s in major championships since 2019, showing an ability to go low as he has 21 rounds of 65 or lower and the most rounds of 62 or lower on the PGA Tour since 2019, including a 59 at the 2020 Northern Trust.
