Players 2021: Dustin Johnson couldn't believe the bad break he got on No. 17

March 13, 2021

It's been a wild week at the Players thus far to say the least. Among the highlights? A marshal running over Bubba Watson's golf ball possibly causing it to be lost, Sergio Garcia missing a tap-in, Jordan Spieth nearly hitting Rory Sabbatini with a tee shot, and Viktor Hovland receiving a penalty thanks to his mom.

So it was only a matter of time before fans could cross "golf ball ricocheting off the flagstick and into the water" off their crazy golf bingo cards. Unfortunately for Dustin Johnson, he happened to be the victim of the latest unusual occurrence.

We've seen plenty of golf balls go in the water on TPC Sawgrass' treacherous 17th hole, but this has to be up there with the most painful ever. The World No. 1 hit a perfect shot during Saturday's third round—it was just a little too perfect.

Watch as DJ's ball takes a hop off the flagstick before tumbling off the green and into the water:

Going from thinking you may have made an ace to making double bogey? That's rough.

Kudos to the unflappable Johnson, though, for birdieing No. 18 to finish off a round of 73.

Hey, at least he doesn't have to buy drinks at the clubhouse tonight.
