Symbolism

This police K9 defecating at center ice is a perfect metaphor for the Philadelphia Flyers right now

December 07, 2021

On Monday, the Philadelphia Flyers—losers of eight straight games, including a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Tampa Bay on Sunday—fired head coach Alain Vigneault. Then they went and lost a ninth straight, coughing up another seven to Colorado. To say things are bad at the Wells Fargo Center is a bit of an understatement, with the team, thought to be playoff contenders this time last year, now sitting second to last in the Metropolitan Division and looking more like rebuild contenders with each passing game.

To fully understand depths of what’s going on in Philadelphia, however, you needn't look further than this video of police K9 taking a big old steamer on center ice, which threatened to break hockey Twitter on Monday. We hope you kids like metaphors!

Absolutely incredible scenes. Nothing in the world implodes like Philly sports teams implode. It’s special every time, and this clip is proof of that concept and then some. The pups, members of Philly PD’s K9 Patrol Class 125, were at the Wells Fargo Center for a class picture, but this very good boy couldn’t help but make his feelings on the Flyers recent performances known. If he wasn't a Philly hero already, he certainly is now.

As for the Flyers, it’s time for them to stand up and stop being sh*t on, literally and figuratively. Assistant coach Mike Yeo has been retained and has the full support of GM Chuck Fletcher. They face a lousy Devils team on Wednesday and an even lousier Coyotes team on Saturday. So save your feces, Philly. Better days are coming. We promise.
