PGA Tour caddie roasts his boss when asked about Rory McIlroy's weird fan encounter

July 09, 2021

Rory McIlroy's bizarre encounter with a fan during Friday's second round of the Scottish Open has prompted plenty of reactions—and Steve Williams jokes. Seriously, that fan was lucky he didn't try to pull that with Uncle Stevie on the bag. Here it is, in case you missed it:

Stevie would have tackled the dude before he laid a finger on anything in that bag. In any event, none of the responses were better than the one given by PGA Tour caddie/funnyman Geno Bonnalie. And it had nothing to do with security. Or, really, a lack of security in this case.

The Loop's unofficial favorite looper was asked what would have happened if a fan pulled out one of Joel Dahmen's clubs during a tournament. And Geno promptly responded by daggering his boss.

Boom. Roasted.

Here was Dahmen's response:

Of course, considering Rory's reputation on the greens, Geno could have made the same joke regarding the four-time major champ. Instead, he took a shot at the guy who pays him. Bold.

But seriously, Joel's putting has been pretty bad. Despite picking up his first PGA Tour win earlier this year, he ranks 166th in strokes gained putting. Yikes. In other words, if a fan actually took Dahmen's putter out of the bag, Geno wouldn't tackle him either.
