Who Let the Dogs Out?

Police respond to report of dogs attacking man on golf course, accidentally shoot him as well

December 15, 2023

Picture this: You’re squeezing in a late-season round, clinging to those last peaceful hours before the in-laws arrive for the holidays when suddenly you’re attacked by a pack of vicious dogs. So you call the police. They come speeding up, draw their guns and start shooting. They get the dogs, but there’s one problem.

They shot you too.

This is improbably, almost unbelievably, what happened to Ohio golfer Lawrence King this week. King, who is co-owner Tri-County Golf Ranch, was out on the course around 9:22 a.m. on Wednesday morning when he was attacked by a pair of dogs. A Springdale officer arrived soon after and opened fire on the dogs. He downed the aggressive canines, but unfortunately caught King with some friendly fire in the process. The 62-year-old was subsequently treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

There’s one last twist to this sordid tale, though. According to local officials, the dogs belonged to King’s business partner. Was there foul play afoot? Do we have an Ohio version of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ brewing down at Tri-County Golf Ranch? These are questions for the police to sort out. Let’s hope their detective work is better than their aim.
