The Great Outdoors

These photos of the NHL’s Lake Tahoe rink are real and they are spectacular

February 18, 2021

As you’ve probably heard every time you’ve turned on one of the NBC family of channels over the course of the past month, this weekend the NHL is taking to the great outdoors for a pair of games on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Bringing hockey back to its roots and all that good jazz. Some have been disappointed that the games are not taking place on the actual lake itself (it doesn’t freeze, people!), but on Thursday the early snapshots of the rink, perched on the 18th fairway of Edgewood Tahoe, began trickling in and it’s fair to say they more than live up to the hype. Go ahead, feast your eyes.

Sure, Fenway was cool. Yes, the Big House in a blizzard was awesome. But assuming the skies are blue and the sun is shining this weekend, it won’t be a stretch to call this weekend’s venue the most beautiful in NHL history. Sorry, Isles fans. The Nassau Coliseum will just have to settle for second.

Droooool. Needless to say, even if you don’t have rooting interest in Avs-Golden Knights and Bruins-Flyers—hell, even if you hate—this weekend will be worth watching simply for the fresh air. Well, as close to fresh air as we get these days anyway . . .
